Daniel J. Jescavage, of Plains, died May 11, 2008 at the Wesley Village, Jenkins Twp.
Born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Andrew and Mary Slovinski Jescavage. He was educated in the Wilkes-Barre area schools and was a graduate of Coughlin High School, class of 1941. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, enlisting in the Navy in February 1942. He served aboard the USS Agenor, seeing action throughout the Pacific Theater. He received numerous medals, ribbons and citations for his combat actions on this ship. He was discharged in December, 1945 with the rank of Machinist Mate First Class.
He was employed as a miner at the Pine Ridge Colliery. He was later employed as a postal clerk by the U.S. Post Office, Wilkes-Barre, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Plains American Legion, Post 558, Plains. He was also a member of the American Postal Workers Union. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Plains, where he served as a sextant and lector.
He is preceded in death by brothers, John, Joseph, Frank, Ted and Chester; sisters, Jennie and Verna.
He is survived by his wife, the former Charlotte Skillinge, who with he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 8, 2008. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Daniel, Wilkes-Barre; and Ronald and his wife, Shirley, of Plains; daughter, Cathie, Plains; granddaughters, Danielle, Michelle and Katie; sister, Irene Martin, Wilkes-Barre; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Military funeral services were May 14 from the Mikelski Funeral Home, Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Plains. Interment, parish cemetery, Plains.
