Bernard Rampola, 88, Wilkes-Barre, died July 2, 2008 at Riverstreet Manor Nursing Home, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Thomas and Eleanor Grabowski Rampola. He was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, and was an Army veteran of World War II. Bernard served honorably in the European Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart while attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He was employed as a plumber for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District until his retirement.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Miners Mills, a life member and past commander of the Miners Mills American Legion, Post 741; the Plains American Legion; Joseph E. Conlon, Post 558; the Veterans of Foreign Wars; Anthracite Post 283, Kingston; a life member and 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Wilkes-Barre Council 302; and a life member and past treasurer of the Miners Mills Triangle Club.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Shannon Krushnowski; sisters, Sophie Martinski, Elizabeth Basarab, Celia Rossi; and brothers, Frank and John Rampola.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, the former Catherine Swint; daughter Pam Pambianco and her husband, John, Trucksville; step-daughters, Roberta Krushnowski and her husband, Stephen, Plains; and Roseanne Haefner, Wyoming; five grandchildren; three great-grandsons; sisters, Eleanor Bolita, Plains; and Dorothy Kozloski, Miners Mills.
Military funeral was July 5 from the Corcoran Funeral Home, Plains, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Sacrament Church. Internment, St. Francis Cemetery, Plains.
