William J. Wills, Jr., 84, died Sept. 26, 2008, at Heartland Hospice.
He was born and raised in Avoca, the son of Janet Robertson Wills and William Wills, Sr. His family owned and operated a bar on McAlpine Street. Later, he moved to Wilmington, DE and was a Chemical Operator at Atlas Power Plant. He retired in 1986 after 29 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and proudly served his country in the European Theater, and was a recipient of a Purple Heart. He had resided at Ingleside Homes for the past four years, and was a member of the Veterans Group at Ingelside. He was a member of St. Elizabeth R.C. Church, Wilmington, and was a dedicated volunteer who was active in all the parish events.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Genevieve (Delaney) Wills; his daughters, Annette Whitmarsh, and her husband, Meryl, and Jeanette Taylor, and her husband, Barry; and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Matthew Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his nephew Michael Joyce, niece Sharon Gunzelman, sisters Jean Quinn, Ruth McKeon, Mary Jackson and brother James Robertson Wills.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Beloved R.C. Church, Milltown Rd., Wilmington, DE, on Wed., Oct. 1, at 11:30 a.m. Friends and relatives may call at the church from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Interment, Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
