Mary B. Lawry, 84, of the Green Ridge section of Scranton, died February 19, 2008 at the Green Ridge Health Center in Scranton following an illness. She was the widow of the Reverend Russell C. Lawry, who died June 15, 1988.
Born July 6, 1923, in Old Forge, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Bessie (Evans) Bitler.
She was a graduate of Old Forge High School. She was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where her husband had served. She was a past president of the Scranton District United Methodist Women and the United Methodist Women of Asbury United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Asbury Church Choir and the Eppworth Class and a former Sunday School Teacher. She was also a former Girl Scout Leader for many years.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Carpenter and Sally Gill, and brother Vernon Bitler
Surviving are three daughters, Marcia A. Inman and husband Ed, of Vestal, N.Y., Ruth Sansom of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Barbara Lawry of Stamford, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Gail Davis, Jeffrey Inman, Julie Inman, Lori Bowan, Evan Mullen and Emily Mullen.
Funeral services were Feb. 22 from the Asbury United Methodist Church, Monsey Avenue and Delaware Street, Scranton, with the Reverend Arthur W. Davis, pastor of the church, as officiating clergy. Private interment, North Chinchilla Cemetery.
