Gertrude R. (Stasiak) Kilvitis, 80, of Avoca, passed away at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, December 2, 2008.
Born in Scranton, March 1, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Jean Stasiak, and step-father Valentine Loyek. She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Church, Avoca. Gertrude was a 1946 Graduate of Scranton Tech High School, graduating as Salutatorian. After graduation she was employed by Phillips Wholesale Jewelers, Scranton.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Arthur; son Richard and his wife, Mary Kilvitis, Avoca; daughters Barbara, wife of Kenneth May, Taylor, and Lori, wife of David McAndrew, Duryea; brothers Henry Stasiak, Taylor, and Thomas Loyek, Scranton; grandchildren Stephanie Kilvitis, Millersville; and Kyle May, Taylor; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Dec. 6 from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Duryea, with Mass of Christian Burial at SS Peter and Paul Church, Avoca. Fr. Joseph Kakareka conducted services. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery.
