Donald R. Berry, 87, a resident of Wesley Village for the past four years, died June 25, 2008.
Born in Forest City, he was a son of the late Earl L. and Matilda Mead Berry. He was a graduate of Forest City High School, Wharton School of Finance, and received his BS in Business Administration from the University of Scranton. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean War serving in the European Theater of Operations. He was a Navigator/ Bombardier who flew in 65 missions. He was a Major with the Pennsylvania National Guard 55th Brigade. He was employed as a Vice President of ICS and then as the Clerk of Courts for the U.S. Middle District of Pennsylvania.
He was a board member of the American Heart Association, the Chamber of Commerce, and S.C.O.R.E. He was a member of the Myrtle Street United Methodist Church and was a Lay Leader and held other offices in the church. His wife is the former Virginia M. Clark. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 19.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Robert Berry.
Surviving are two daughters, Sharon L. Hay, and her husband, James, Easton; Sheila M. Petras, and her husband, Charles, Old Forge; son, Wayne R. Berry, and his wife, Heather, Arlington, VA; six grandchildren, Steve, Diane, and William Hay; Lauren, Ryan, and Colin Berry; brother, Herbert L. Berry, Libertyville, IL; several nieces and nephews
The funeral was July 5 from the Myrtle Street United Methodist Church, Scranton. Interment, at the convenience of the family in Abington Hills Cemetery, S. Abington Twp.
