Stella Kania, 96, of Avoca, died July 29, 2008 in Mercy Hospice, Scranton, after a brief illness. She was the widow of Stanley A. Kania.
Born in the Hudson section of Plains on September 18, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Frances (Suchodolski) Palkiewicz. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Duryea. Stella worked in the local garment industry and took loving care of her disabled husband, Stanley, for many years until his death in 1997.
She is survived by a son, Stanley John, and wife Marcia, Avoca; brothers John Palkiewicz and wife Charmane, of Zainesville, Ohio; Stanley, Edison, N.J.; a sister, Josephine Palkiewicz; sister-in-law Florence and Dr. Stephen Bates, Long Island, N.Y.; a brother-in-law Theodore Kania, Scranton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Palkiewicz; sister Mary Assumption; sister-in-law Ida Palkiewicz; nieces Barbara Reise, Louise Westawski and Laurie Rostock.
Funeral services were August 2 from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Duryea, with Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Rosary Church, Duryea. Interment, parish cemetery. Online condolences may be made at .
