Food Pantry registers over 400

First Posted: 11/30/2008

The Greater Pittston Food Pantry distributed free food to the first 20 registered households on October 16. It has now registered more than 200 qualifying households, consisting of over 400 individuals, from fifteen communities in the Greater Pittston area. Qualifying families call the pantry and are given an appointment date to pick-up the food.
Over one dozen volunteers are on hand each week to sort and pack the donated items. The packing has recently been increased to accommodate 25 families each week due to the increased demands. Because the pantry is unable to make home deliveries, recipients are asked to find a neighbor, friend or relative who can transport them or pick up the food for them. Volunteers are on hand to carry the boxes to the parking area.
The pantry is located in the former Seton Catholic High School building at 37 William St., Pittston. It is sponsored by The Care and Concern Ministry of St. John the Evangelist Parish Community. For more information or to make a food or monetary donation please call 654-9923
