Samuel S. DeAngelo, 83, Exeter, passed away March 6, 2008.
Born in Homer City, he was the son of the late Emilio and Emelia Ramunno DeAngelo.
He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Exeter and was a 1942 graduate of Exeter High School.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he served on the USS Belet, the USS Fred T. Berry, and the USS Hart. While serving his country, he earned the Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a supervisor for the Road and Bridge Dept. of Luzerne County. He had also worked for the former Rex Shoe Co., Exeter, and in various coal mines in the area and as a carpenter for local contractors.
He was a member of the Exeter VFW Post # 6518, the National American Legion and was a Lifetime member of the Exeter Hose Co. # 1.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon on June 24, 2007 and brother Nicholas DeAngelo, and sisters Yolanda Bellas, Bernice DeAngelo , a nephew Gary DeAngelo and brothers in law Paul Borosky and Michael Lynott.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former Ellen (Lana) Lynott; sons, Thomas, Exeter and Samuel and his wife Carmen, Bethlehem; brothers, Frank and his wife Carolyn, Exeter; William and his wife Joyce, Exeter; sisters, Mary and her husband Joseph Alfano, Wyoming, Betty Borosky, Dolores and her husband William Shuleski and Lillian DeAngelo, all of Exeter. Grandchildren, Leo , Emma, and Dante DeAngelo; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, Exeter with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, Exeter. Interment St. John the Baptist Slovak Cemetery, Exeter. Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m..
