Russell E. James, M.D., 79, formerly of Kingston, died August 7, 2008 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was born in Kingston on July 19, 1929 and was a son of the late Elmer and Thelma James. He graduated from Kingston High School, Columbia University in New York City and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Lt. Commander. Dr. James was a practicing physician for more than 30 years and a staff physician at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for more than 20 years.
He had resided in Kingston for most of his life. He was a member of the Luzerne County Medical Society and the American Medical Association. Dr. James was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Kingston.
Preceding him in death was his beloved wife, Phyllis James, in 1979.
Surviving are his sons, Russell E. James II, M.D., and his wife, Ann, Shavertown; Mark James, Jacksonville, FL; brother, Elmer James, Durham, NC; sister-in-law, Bernice Welliver, West Pittston; grandchildren, Alyssa and Michael James, Kingston; Russell E. James III, Houston, Texas; Jessica James, Jacksonville, FL.
The funeral was August 12 from the Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home, Forty Fort. Interment, Forty Fort Cemetery.
