Temple University freshman and former Pittston Area PIAA State Champion, Brandon Matthews, was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season.
Matthews helped the Owls capture their first tournament title since 2011 when he led the team with a 7-over par 220 to place sixth at the Wildcat Invitational. Matthews carded a 69 in the morning round on Monday at White Manor Country Club in Malvern and followed that with a 77 in the afternoon session.
His 3-over 74 Tuesday was crucial in Temple’s comeback from a 9-stroke deficit to best Rhode Island by three shots.
