William D. (Whip) McDonnell, 73, of Pittston Township, went on his final journey January 5, 2013 at St. Luke’s Villa, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Pittston Township, he was the son of the late Joseph and Martha Poston McDonnell.

He was a 1957 Graduate of Pittston Township High School.

He belonged to the IUOE Local 542 and was a heavy equipment operator for 35 years.

He was preceded in death by Brothers Paul, Marty, Leo, and Bobby. Sisters Margret McHugh, Rosemary Moran, Martha Connors, and Rita Vilano.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Koza McDonnell; a son William P. McDonnell; a daughter, Karen Bloom; stepchildren, Michael Koza, Mary Lou

Koza and Tracy Shupp; son-in-law, Bryan Shupp; three grandchildren, the love of his life, Michael Munykowski, Katie Wynn, and Bryan Shupp; a brother, Joseph and wife Joan McDonnell; sisters, Alma Devlin, Helen Coyle and husband David, and Alice Bokanoski; sister-in-law, Wanda, and brother-in-laws

Billy Vilano and Jerry Connors; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; his best friends, Apollo, Ajax, and Neo.

The family offers sincere thanks to Dr. Mauer Biscotti, Six Floor East staff of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, and staff of the Inpatient Hospice Unit at St. Luke’s Villa of Wilkes-Barre.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Graziano Funeral Home 700 Township Blvd., Pittston Township.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on a later date at the families’ convenience.
