St. Barbara’s

St. Barbara’s Parish, Memorial and Erie Avenue, Exeter, will hold the final day of its annual bazaar on the parish grounds today.

There will be ethnic and traditional foods, a flea market, Bingo, children’s games and much more.

Queen of the Apostles

An all-you-can-eat pig roast will be held from noon to 4 p.m. today, July 21 on the grounds of St. Mary’s School, 742 Spring St., Avoca.

The menu includes roasted pig, hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, corn on the cob, desserts, soda and water.

There will also be children’s games, basket and cash raffles and a bake sale. Admission is $20 for adults, $10 for children age 6-12 and free for children 5 years of age and younger.

St. Maria Goretti

St. Maria Goretti Church in Laflin is holding its annual summer festival from 5 to 10 p.m. July 26-28.

Live entertainment will be Groove Train (July 26), Hillbilly D’Lux (July 27) and Double Cross (July 28).

Activities include a bake sale, children’s games, Bingo, pony rides, Water Wars and more.

Great homemade food includes porketta, piggies in a blanket, clam chowder, haluski, pierogies, potato pancakes, sausage and peppers, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders and more.

Directions: From Route 315m turn on to Laflin Road, then make the turn across from the Laflin Municipal Building Police Station.

Sacred Heart of Jesus

The annual parish picnic at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont, will be held on Aug. 1, 2 and 3 on the parish grounds.

The picnic is noted for its ethnic food, especially potato pancakes, pierogies, piggies in the blanket, as well as traditional picnic foods.

There will be live entertainment nightly and various games.

Donations of non-perishable food items and paper products are being sought for the Food Basket Stand. Donations may be left on the rear porch of the rectory., Anyone wishing to donate a theme basket or items for a theme basket is asked to contact Ann Marie Paddock at 654-0897 or the rectory at 654-3713.

St. John the Evangelist

The 14th annual bazaar of the Parish Community of St. John the Evangelist will be held Aug. 8, 9 and 10 at Church and Broad Streets in Pittston. Featured will be nightly entertainment, delicious ethnic and American food, a giant flea market in Seton auditorium and a raffle for two Notre Dame football game tickets.

A meeting for all kitchen workers will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16 at the home of Bill Naugle. Any new or returning volunteers are encouraged to attend. Call 655-3602 to confirm and for directions.

Any business or individual interested in becoming a bazaar sponsor is asked to contact the parish office.

Volunteers are needed to help with many aspects of the bazaar. Call the parish office at 654-0053 to volunteer.

Items needed include buckets need to be filled for the bucket stand, items for the flea market which can be dropped off Mondays and Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. until July 23 (acceptable items include CDs, videos, books, dishes, glassware, childrens toys, sliverware, jewelry, season items; unacceptable items include stuffed animals, TVs, furniture, computer equipment and clothing); crafts and gifts for the craft stand, jewelry and cash.

Pittston Tomato Festival

The 30th Annual Pittston Tomato Festival will be held Aug. 15-18 on the festival grounds in downtown Pittston. There is live entertainment nightly.

Some 50,000 people traditionally attend the four-day event which features dozens of vendors serving a variety of ethnic foods.

There is a parade and pageant on Saturday.

The annual Tomato Fights are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 in the parking lot of Cooper’s on the Waterfront on Kennedy Boulevard .
