Luzerne County Community College announced summer camps for children.

“Rock Star Academy” will allow participants to experience an actual recording studio with the latest in music recording technology equipment. Students will learn the basics of song writing, experience a variety of instruments and create a CD to take home. Parents will join on the final day of the camp for a performance and tour of the college’s music recording facility.

The camp is open to 11 to 13 year-old children and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 21 at the college’s Advanced Technology Center.

“Broadcast Camp” will allow participants to experience both the college’s radio station, WSFX 89.1 and 105.5 and TV station, Luzerne TV. Topics to be covered include camera operation, audio and lighting, interview tips, reading on air, show production, and others. Parents will join on the final day of camp for a production and tour of the College’s facilities. The camp is open to 11 to 13 year-old children and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 21, at the college’s Advanced Technology Center.

“Computers for Kids” will allow participants in grades 1, 2 and 3 to learn about computers in a college classroom. The three-hour session will cover basic fundamentals, keyboard and mouse use, Microsoft Paint, and searching fun Internet educational websites. Each participant will get to take home their own flash drive. Two sections of the camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 27 and Saturday, Aug. 3 at the college’s Advanced Technology Center.

“Arts in the Afternoon” will allow participants to express their creativity while experiencing watercolor painting, photography, and graphic design during the three-session camp. The camp is for 11 to 13 year-old children and will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 16 through Thursday, July 18 at the College’s Advanced Technology Center.
