The Pittston Active Adult Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. New members are welcome to come aboard. Free coffee is available from 8:30 am to closing. The center now has wi fi available as well as three computers w/internet access.
Exercise classes are now being offered at the center fives times a week. Healthy Steps classes with Ruth and Cathering are held Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 9 a.m. On Tuesday at 11 a.m., and Thursdays at 9 a.m. a Sit and Be Fit Chair Exercise Class with Mary and Sandi is available. There is no charge for these classes. On Tuesday afternoons at 2, Zumba Gold classes are offered for a small fee. Anita LoPresto is the instructor.
On Mondays at 10 a.m., Line Dancing class with Sue are held. The crochet club with Katherine meets at 10 a.m. as well.
Cards, shuffleboard, Wii bowling, and computer with internet access is also available throughout the day. The pitch group is seeking new members to join them on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at 1.
Ceramic classes are offered on Wednesdays. Ann Pisano is the instructor. There is a fee for this class and for purchasing of supplies. Needlepoint class with Mary is held on Thursday mornings at 10.
At 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, Gail from the American Red Cross will speak on “Emergency Preparedness.” The public is invited to attend.
Reservations are now being taken for the following trips:
Tuesday, Oct. 22 to Penn’s Peak. Cost is $65 which includes motorcoach transportation, Dinner and the King Henry Show.
Thursday, Nov. 7 to Sands Casino in Bethlehem. Cost is $25 with a $20 in free play and a $5 food voucher.
Thursday, Dec. 5 to Pines Dinner Theater. Cost is $72 which includes meal, motorcoach transportation and Walkin in the Winter Wonderland Christmas Show.

The Wyoming, West Wyoming will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the St. Monica’s meeting rooms at 1:30 p.m.
Servers are Olga Mizin and Helen Markert. Fifty -Fifty winners from the last meeting are Mickey DeSalvo and Paul Delaney . Bingo jackpot winner was Charlotte Piezala.
The Halloween committee, consisting of Sam DeSalvo, Donna Poceschi, and Mary Matani, completed plans for the Halloween social to be held on Oct. 15.
The menu selected is a ziti dinner with meatballs in sauce. A salad and bread and butter. The desert will be homemade cake.
Plans for the Dinner Christmas party were discussed and the committee consists of Nancy Marcy, Joan Kwasny, and Donna Pocceschi. More details later.
Refreshments will be served after the regular business meeting and bingo will be played. New members and guest are welcome and you don’t have to be a resident to join.
The Cosmopolitan Seniors next meeting is at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, in St. Anthony’s Center in Exeter. Host/hostesses are Mary Coleman, Rose Gunsior, Evelyn Naples, Bernie Petrasek, Ann Marie Shedlock, and Betsie Williams.
The previous meeting was attended by 51 members and 2 guests. After the call to order, Vice President Joe Kleback led the group in prayer, pledge of allegiance and a patriotic song. Terri Mislan read the minutes of the previous meeting, and Amy Alpaugh gave the treasurers report. Afterwards the group enjoyed refreshments and bingo was played.
The 50/50 winners were Lou Bryja, Marie Cheskiewicz’z guest, Rosemary Golenski, Frances Poluske, and Bernie Serbin. Ginny Craig won the special game prize, and Sam Ferrara and Juanita Herrick shared the Bingo jackpot. Lou Bryja won a basket of breakfast foods donated by Table 4.
A Casino trip is planed for October 9, to Mt. Airy with pickups in Exeter and Pittston. You do not have to be a member to come on these trips. Details can be obtained from Johanna at 655-2720.
The Falls Active Adult Center sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne/Wyoming counties invites anyone 50 or over to the following activites:
Mondays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. – Wii bowling competition with Tunkhannock Center ( alternating sites)
Mondays from 1 to 2 p.m. – Crocheting Club (all levels welcome)
Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 to 11:45 a.m. – “Healthy Steps” exercise program
Wednesdays from 10 to 10:45 a.m. – Walking Club
Tuesdays – Brain games at lunch
Thursdays – Nutrition talks at lunch
Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to noon – Geocaching activity
A Health Fair will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This includes, free glaucoma screening, blood pressure and free shingles shot to those who are 50 or over with no insurance. The flu shots will also be offered (this is covered under Medicare) for those with no insurance, the cost is $30. There will be health representatives offering information on services.
An art class with Rose Brostosky will be Monday, Oct. 7, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Come and enjoy a fall project using alcohol paint. An October birthday celebration will also be held.
If you wish to receive a hot meal at noon with a suggested donation of $2 for those over 60 and $3 for those under 60, RSVP to Twila at 570-388-2623 by 12:30 p.m. the day before. The center is located on State Route 92 in Fallas and is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
