Susan Vosik Pekala has been named the new aquatic director for the Greater Pittston YMCA. Craig Lukatch, CEO, recently announced the appointment of Pekala, a graduate of Antioch University of New England with a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Management. Pekala has strong ties to the Y community, having worked at YMCA Camp Takodah in Richmond, NH as the Director of Outdoor Programs and the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA as the Aquatic Director. She is certified as an American Red Cross water safety instructor trainer, lifeguard, waterfront, head lifeguard instructor and lay responder and professional CPR/AED and first aid instructor. Lukatch has also announced the hiring of a new head swim instructor, Gina Bowen who will work directly with Pekala in developing a quality and solid aquatic program. Bowen is an avid YMCA swimmer and has served as the coach of the Pittston Area swim team and was a lifeguard at the YMCA. Aquatic lessons

The next session of aquatic lessons begins March 4 and lasts seven weeks. Susquehanna Stride

Susquehanna Stride 2013 is off and running. Just like last year, the Stride will take participants through the Greater Pittston area on a challenging, hilly 5K and half marathon. Last year, nearly 300 runners took to the streets of Greater Pittston to challenge themselves to the Stride. The event will be held on May 26 with a start/finish at the Greater Pittston YMCA.
