Kylie A. Sheplock received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Engineering and a minor in Environmental Engineering from Pennsylvania State University on May 3. Sheplock is a 2008 graduate of Wyoming Area High School.

While at Penn State main campus Kylie was the President of the Society of Women Engineers, she was involved with the Engineering Ambassadors, and the Women Engineering Program as a Lead. She received several awards, including the 2013 Joelle Award for extraordinary leadership, ambitious service and dynamic mentorship in the College of Engineering, she received the Student Ambassador for outstanding contributions for recruitment and program visibility for the Biological Engineering Department.

Currently she is serving on the selection committee responsible for electing the new dean of the College of Engineering. Sheplock has accepted an engineering position with Mars Chocolate USA, Hackettstown, NJ. She is the daughter of Greg and Marie Sheplock of West Pittston. She is the granddaughter of Thomas and Ellen Shanahan of Plains and the late Thomas and Mary Alice Sheplock of West Pittston and the late Joan A, Shanahan RN of Plains.

Prep graduate

Clement M. Rinaldi, son of Clement Rinaldi and Karen Kaminski of Moscow, graduated from Scranton Prep on Sunday June 2 and has been accepted at Dickinson University in Carlisle. Mr. Rinaldi is the grandson of Judy Kaminski and the late Michael G. Kaminski of Dupont and Clement and Madelyn Rinaldi, Moscow.

Keith Griffin of Dupont graduated from Clarion University with a Chemistry BS degree during May 18 commencement.

High school grad

in Georgia

William Joseph Garrison, son of William and JoLynn Para Garrison, Swanee, GA, graduated from North Gwinett High School on May 25.

Garrison graduated with a 3.50 GPA with a successful completion in the Advanced Placement Gifted Honors Program, for the past four years and was also honored for a Servant Leadership Group Award for 160 volunteer hours of missionary work in Nicaragua.

He is the recipient of an academic scholarship to attend Mercer University in Macon, GA with a major in Biology to study pre-med.

Garrison is the grandson of Joseph and Florence Vitak Para, Inkerman and the late William and Sallie Garrison of Philadelphia.

from Fairfield University

Andrew Jackowitz, Moosic, received a Bachelor of Science/Engineer degree from Fairfield University’s School of Engineering at the 63rd Commencement ceremonies.

U of s Dean’s list

The following local students were added to The University of Scranton Dean’s List for the fall 2012 semester after publication of the list in January.

The Dean’s List recognizes students for academic excellence each semester. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours to make the Dean’s List. The list includes students from the Jesuit university’s College of Arts and Sciences, the Kania School of Management, the Panuska College of Professional Studies and the College of Graduate and Continuing Education.

Local students added to the fall 2012 Dean’s List are, Dolores Rozelle, Exeter, College of Graduate and Continuing Education; Michael Holmes, Avoca, College of Arts and Sciences; Edward Hayes, Avoca, College of Arts and Sciences.

Manganello named to

Stonehill’s Dean’s List

Jennifer N. Manganello, Exeter, a member of the Class of 2015, was recently named to Stonehill College’s Dean’s List for the Spring 2013 semester.

To qualify for the Dean’s List at Stonehill, students must have a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better and must have completed successfully all courses for which they were registered.

Chaiko receives

math honor

Joseph Chaiko, Pittston, has been recognized by the United States Achievement Academy as a student of excellence in Mathematics.

This is a prestigious honor very few students hope to obtain. In fact, the Academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students.

Chaiko, who attends Pittston Area Middle School, is the son of Joseph and Lisa Chaiko, Pittston, and the grandson of Ann and Joe Chaiko, Duryea, and Santa Mead, Avoca.

Chaiko was nominated by his teacher, Charlene Barge.
