The V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary to Post 8335 Avoca is planning a bingo party at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 for patients at the V.A. Medical Center Wilkes-Barre.

Gifts and donations can be dropped off at the post home until 5 p.m. on Oct. 2. The Ladies will leave the post home at 5:30 pm. to go the Medical Center. Transportation is available. Food, glass, and sharp objects can not be accepted.

The next meeting will be Monday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in the post home, 915 Main St. President June Fitzgerald will preside over the meeting. Paula Regan and Joan Emlaw will serve as hostesses. Plans for the Christmas Party will be discussed.

Lions Food Bank

Avoca Lions club food bank will be open on Thursday, Oct. 3 from 4-6:30 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, Avoca. Help unloading the truck will be needed at 1:30 p.m. to help keep the food bank going. Please bring boxes.

Council meeting

The regular monthly meeting of Avoca Borough Council will be held following the 6:30 p.m. work session on Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Municipal Building. Council President Joseph Satkowski will preside.

Avoca Crime Watch

The Avoca Neighborhood Crime Watch will hold a social meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 15 in the Queen of the Apostles Parish auditorium. The Neighborhood Watch will be celebrating it’s first year anniversary and October will be declared membership month. If you have not jet joined, this would be a good time to come and talk to find out what our organization is all about. Refreshments will be served. Yard Waste Collection

The Yard Wast will be collected for Avoca Borough residents on the first and third Tuesday of each month. The following separated items will be collected: Grass clippings and leaves, shrubs, hedge clippings and tree limbs not exceeding three feet in length and an inch in diameter, rocks, stones, dirts and amimal waste are not acceptable forms of yard waste.

A maximum of three open containers not to exceed 30 pounds will be allowed during the collections. Do not use plastic bags, or it will be refused. Place containers at curbside by 8 a.m.
