Applications are now available for single young ladies between the ages of 13 and 19 to compete in the 2013 Miss Tomato Festival Queen Pageant.
There will be prizes and gifts for all, a $500 cash college scholarship to the winner and a $250 cash college scholarship to the first runner-up. Those not attending college may use the scholarship for educational purposes. Scoring is based on an interview, stage performance/talent, which may include a commercial for the Festival, a song, dance, etc.
To be eligible, you must be between ages 13-19, and available to compete Saturday, Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. Each entrant is invited to ride in the Saturday morning parade. The 2013 winner will be required to be at the festival to meet and greet guests through the conclusion on Sunday night. Applicants are not required to be from the Pittston area.
Applications are available online at www.pittstontomatofestival.com/queen.htm. Proof of age is required, along with a $30 application fee and a recent head shot. This year’s co chairs for the pageant are Angel Noone and Jessica Linskey. The deadline to apply is Aug. 10.
The Little Miss and Little Mister Tomato contest will be held Sunday, Aug. 18. All contestants are asked to be at the festival band shell by 10:30 a.m.
The first category, “Little Miss Pittston Tomato” is open to girls 2-6 years old. The second category, “Little Mister Pittston Tomato” is open to boys 2-6 years old. The categories will be judged with 50 points for beauty and 50 points for personality. The children are asked to wear something the would wear to a day at the Tomato Festival.
One winner will be chosen in each category with on runner-up. Entry fee is $5 and prizes will be awarded. Check should be made payable to the Pittston Tomato Festival, Inc. Deadline for entries is Wednesday, Aug. 14. Chairpersons for the event are Angel Noone and Marie Rose LoBrutto. Applications are available online at pittstontomatofestival.com.
reminds of delays
The Pittston City Police Department would like to remind everyone that Saturday, Aug. 17, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., all traffic coming into and leaving the City will be stopped due to the race and parade. Please make arrangements to your travel plans during this time frame.
