Family Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania (FSA NEPA) and members of the Pauly Friedman 5K Family Walk/Run announced the fifth anniversary race slated for today, Aug. 11 at Misericordia University on Lake Street, Dallas. Registration for this 3.1 mile event is at 8:30 a.m. with the race beginning at 9:30 a.m.
AVOCA LITTLE LEAGUE
The Avoca/Dupont Little League will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. today, Aug. 11 at the Avoca Borough Building.
NEPA/Abington Wildcats Fastpitch travel softball organization will be hosting 16U and 18U tryouts for their fall 2013 and summer 2014 teams. The teams will be attending several college showcases. Tryouts will be held Sunday, Aug. 11 from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17 from 1-3 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 18 from 1-3 p.m. at Abington Heights High School. Tryouts for the Pittston Area golf team will be held at 7 a.m. at Fox Hill Country Club on Aug. 12-18. Proper attire is required. All players must have taken a fall sports physical to be eligible. Wyoming Valley Vipers fastpitch travel softball organization will host 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U tryouts for their 2014 season. Tryouts will be held from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 13-15. The first day of tryouts will be held at Kobeski field (corner of Church and Wylam Ave.) in Moosic. Aug. 14-15 tryouts will be at Kirby Park in Wilkes-barre. TO HOLD MEETING
The Wyoming Area Football Parents’ Association will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at Sabatini’s Pizza in Exeter. All parents and guardians of players in Grades 7-12 are encouraged to attend.

47th EXETER OPEN
The 47th annual Exeter Golf tournament will be held Sunday, Aug. 18 at Emanon Country Club.
Tee times will be taked from 11 a.m. throughout the afternoon. The cost is $75 per golfer, or $65 without a cart, which includes greens fees, prizes, food and refreshments. Mail applications and fees to George Burns at 41 Barber Street, Exeter.
The tournament is captain and crew.
The Fifth Annual Golf Tournament to benefit the 1st. Lt. Jeffrey DePrimo Memorial Fund, Luzerne Foundation, will be held Aug. 17 at the Wilkes Barre Golf Club. Registration is at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Cost is $75 per golfer, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, dinner and awards following the golf. Mark Casper HOOPS4ME Camp, a fun, educational course on the fundamentals of basketball will be held the Wyoming Area Catholic gym, Wyoming Ave, Exeter from Aug. 19-23. Boys grades 3, 4, 5 from 9 a.m. to noon; Boys grades 6, 7, 8 from 1-4 p.m.
Cost is $65 per player or $55 per player with more than one player per family. Along with the teaching of FUNdamentals, there will be some 3-on-3 competitions, some 5-on-5, foul shooting contests, our famous skills obstacle course and more. Full payment must accompany application. Players receive a free t-shirt and prizes will be awarded.

Duryea Little League will have its family night on Friday, Aug. 23 at PNC Park to see a RailRiders game. All boys and girls who were players in our league are free. Parents and siblings are a cost of $8.
Reservations can be made by calling 655-0203. Last day to accept reservations is August 8. Duryea Little League will be having a fundraiser at Yogurt in Love, in the Pittston Plaza near Kmart, on Thursday, August 1 from 6-9 p.m.
The Avoca AOH will hold it’s annual golf tournament on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 8 a.m. at Pine Hills Country Club in Taylor. Format is captain and mate.

The Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick will be hosting their annual Black Shamrock Open on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Course. The format of the tournament is Captain and Crew and entry fee is $75 per golfer. The event will kick off with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.
There will be refreshments at the course, and a buffet meal following the tournament at the golf course. Registration should be completed as soon as possible.
The Tournament committee meets every Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus in Pittston.

Last year the Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick awarded scholarships to two students totaling $5,000 and the proceeds from this event will benefit the Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Scholarship Program.

The Emanon Day for Autism Golf tournament will be held Sunday, Sept. 8 at Emanon Country Club in Falls. The tournament benefits S.A.F.E. (Supporting Autism and Families Everywhere). The Holy Rosary school is looking for golfers for its Fifth Annual Holy Rosary Golf Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Pine Hills Country Club in Taylor. The tournament is captain and crew format with lunch and dinner included.
