Murphy wins school spelling bee

Timothy Murphy, an eighth-grade student at Wyoming Area Catholic, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on Jan. 11and a chance to win a $25,000 college scholarship.

Marissa Moran, grade 8, placed second in the Bee; Dennis Harrison, grade 7, placed third.

The school-level Bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the 25th annual National Geographic Bee.

Murphy will now take a written test. Up to 100 of the top scorers on that test in each state will be eligible to compete in their state Bee April 5.
