MEETING

The Pittston Red Devils Sportsmens Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at the home of Dr. Nick Ruggerio. All summer events will be discussed, along with all upcoming winter events. All members are urged to attend this important meeting.

WYOMING AREA

BOYS BASKETBALL

A mandatory parent’s meeting for all players interested in playing basketball for any of the school teams, for boys in grades 7 through 12, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept 3 in the High School gym. Coach Brogna will discuss the upcoming season. Important dates will also be announced.

Any players interested in registering for fall basketball can do so at the following dates: Today, Aug. 25 from 7:30-8:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 7:30-8:30 p.m.; Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Signup will be held in the high school gym. The league is for any boy in the Wyoming Area School District in grades 1 through 6. Spots will be on a first come, first serve basis. Space is limited, so please sign up early. Cost of the league is $40 per person. Parents are reminded to bring insurance cards and know their child’s tee shirt size (youth or adult sizes are available). Camp is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Sept. 13 and will run every Saturday (unless noted on schedule) through Oct. 26. Players are asked to be at the gym 10 minutes prior to their starting time.

League times will be: 1st and 2nd grade – 9-10 a.m.; 3rd and 4th grade – 10-11 a.m.; 5th and 6th grade – 11 a.m. to noon.

GOLF TOURNEY

The Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick will be hosting their annual Black Shamrock Open on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Course. The format of the tournament is Captain and Crew and entry fee is $75 per golfer. The event will kick off with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.

There will be refreshments at the course, and a buffet meal following the tournament at the golf course. Anyone that would like to register to participate or is interested in more information please contact Jimmy Clancy at 881-4176 or any active member of the G.P. Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. Registration should be completed as soon as possible.

The Tournament committee meets every Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus in Pittston.

Sponsorships are also available at several different levels. If you or your business would like to be a sponsor please be sure to contact Clancy at the number listed above. Friendly Sons member Bob Calpin will be on hand with golf tips at the start of the tournament.

Last year the Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick awarded scholarships to two students totaling $5,000 and the proceeds from this event will benefit the Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Scholarship Program.

GIRLS SOFTBALL

The Hughestown Girl’s Softball League will be having their end of the year cook out on Sunday, September 8 at 4 p.m. at the field. Any of the 2013 girls wishing to attend plesae contact Darrin Bidwell at 654-2082 or Sharon Purdy at 655-0747. This is free to 2013 girls and parents.

GOLF TOURNEY

The Emanon Day for Autism Golf tournament will be held Sunday, Sept. 8 at Emanon Country Club in Falls. The tournament benefits S.A.F.E. (Supporting Autism and Families Everywhere). Sponsors are wanted with $30 tee sponsorships or a gift/donation. Make checks payable to Mildred Petrucci and mail them to Modern Market, 1179 Wyoming Ave., Exeter.

HOLY ROSARY

GOLF OUTING

The Holy Rosary school is looking for golfers for its Fifth Annual Holy Rosary Golf Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Pine Hills Country Club in Taylor. The tournament is captain and crew format with lunch and dinner included. Registration is at noon and the shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Cost is $90 per golfer or $360 for a foursome which includes a tee sponsor.

ST. MONICA

GOLF OUTING

St. Monica Parish Golf Outing, Benefiting Projects of the Parish Men’s and Women’s Groups, will be held Sunday, Sept. 15 at Four Seasons Golf Club, Exeter.

Registration is at noon with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cost is $50 per person or $200 per foursome which includes, dinner catered by Villa Foglia following event plus beer, soda and water. Golf limited to the first 120 golfers. Registration due before Sept. 5.

The Dupont PACC Golf tournament will be held at Edgewood in the Pines on Sept. 1. It’s Captain and Crew format starting at 11 a.m. Dinner and refreshments will occur immediately after the tournament at the PACC. Cost is $80 per player. The deadline for entry is Sept. 15. GOLF TOURNAMENT

The John “Beno” Borzell Drive for Excellence golf tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Fout Seasons Golf Club in Exeter. The format is captain and crew with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Cost is $65 per golfer and includes 18 holes with a cart, breakfast and a barbecue with prizes after the tournament. Proceeds benefit the John Anthony “Beno” Borzell Scholarship and the Wilkes University Environmental Chemistry Lab and Scholarship. Make check payable to John Anthony “Beno” Borzell Scholarship. Hole and Tee sponsors are available for $100.

DURYEA FIRE

SOFTBALL TOURNEY

The first Duryea Fire Softball tournament, benefiting firefighter Jordan Thomas, will be held on Sept. 20, 21, 22 at the Dupont Little League Field.
