Theresa O’Brien Walsh, 92, of Avoca, passed away Thursday Jan. 31, 2013, at the Regional Hospice of Scranton.

She was born in Thatto Heath, England, on June 23, 1920 and was a daughter of the late James and Anna (Martindale) McDermott.

Theresa was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca, and a former member of its Woman’s Guild. She was a graduate of Avoca High School. Theresa retired from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, James O’Brien, who died in 1953; her husband, William Walsh, who passed away in 1998; her infant daughter, Jane O’Brien; her brother Patrick McDermott; and her sister, Peggy Ann Russer.

She is survived by her daughter Ann (O’Brien) Soy and her husband, John, Avoca; her brother Thomas McDermott, Lansdale; grandchildren, Jane Ann Yankelitis and her husband, Stan; Patty Hugo and her husband, Greg; John Soy and his wife, Linda, and James Soy and his wife, Jennifer; and great-grandchildren, Jill and Ben Yankelitis; Joseph, Tyler and Nick Hugo, and Matthew Soy.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, Queen of the Apostles Parish, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, with the Rev. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca.
