Peter J. Banos, 82, formerly of West Pittston, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in Wesley Village with his loving wife of 53 years, Maria Xidia Banos at his side.

Born in Pittston on May 7, 1930, he was a son of the late John and Virginia Papakostanti Banos. He graduated from West Pittston High School and attended Wilkes College for 3½ years. Mr. Banos served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He was the owner and operator, along with his wife, of the Pittston Shoe Repair and Hat Cleaning business, which his father had started. Peter was a gentleman, a well-respected businessman and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Economopoulos and Sophie Alexandrakos.

In addition to his wife, Maria, he is survived by a sister, Evangeline Gabriel and her husband, George, of Allentown; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at 9 a.m. from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston, with religious services at 10 a.m. in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 32 E. Ross St., Wilkes-Barre, celebrated by the Rev. Gabriel Nicholas. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre. Friends may call today, Jan. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
