AVOCA HS DANCE

Alumni and friends from Avoca High School are invited to attend the second annual dinner dance/get together on Sept. 7 from 6:30-11 p.m. at St. Mary’s Auditorium, Avoca.

Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased from any committee member. Please contact Carole Berry at 451-1620 for more information and/or tickets.

VFW AUXILIARY

Due to the Labor Day Holiday, the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary to Post 8335 regular monthly business meeting has been changed to Monday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. in the post home, 915 Main St. District President Mary Ann Pauline will be making her official annual inspection of our Auxiliary at this time. President June Fitzgerald will preside over the meeting. Hostesses will be Elaine Frietas, Particia Bartnicki, and Wendy Radle.

Dues for 2013-2014 can also be paid at this meeting.

The next V.A. Bingo Hospital party will be held Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m for patients at the V.A. Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre. Ladies will leave post home at 5:30 p.m.

LIONS CLUB TO

HOLD FOOD BANK

Avoca Lions Club will be having food bank from 4-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5 at the Bethel United Methodist Church, Main Street, Avoca. Volunteers are needed at 1:30 p.m. to unload the trucks. Everyone is asked to bring boxes because our supply has been depleted.

VFW CHICKEN BBQ

Avoca VFW post 8335 will hold its annual chicken barbeque dinner from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the post home, 915 Main St. Avoca. Tickets are available from members or by calling 457-7673 for a donation of $9.

HOSE COMPANY

• The 2013 fund drive for Avoca Hose Company is underway and packets where recently mailed out to residents. This is the main source of income for the company which relies on donations to pay for expenses such as heat, insurances and fuel. Donations may alos be made online at www.avocafire.net.

• Avoca Hose Company will sponsor the annual 911 Mass at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Queen of Apostles Church on Hawthorne Street in Avoca. Anyone wanting to march to church should be at Avoca Fire station at 6:30 p.m.
