HUGHESTOWN — Each year, the Hughestown Lions Club provides scholarships to local high school graduates who have excelled in the classroom to assist them in the advancement of their college studies and to help defer the growing costs of going to college. Students can apply for these scholarships through an application process availble at Pittston Area High School.
The Hughestown Lions Club takes pride in the annual tradition and this year provided two scholarships to deserving students. Claudia Shandra was the recipient of the Dale Kridlo Scholarship award and Stephen Yuhas was the recipient of the Jerry Chilipko Scholarship award.
The Hughestown Lions Club begain the Dale Kridlo Scholarship to honor the memory of Hughestown native Dale Kridlo, who was killed in the line of duty while serving with the U.S. military in Afghanistan, and the Jerry Chilipko Scholarship, named after a long-time member and past president of the Hughestown Lions Club.
Both students and their families were honored at a recent Lions club meeting.
