PITTSTON — Muralist Michael Pilato began his weekend 50 feet in the air on a scissor lift. In about a week, his work will be finished.

Pilato begin applying the World of Inspiration Mural to the south side of the Newrose Building on Main Street early Friday morning. Pilato said it will take him and his team about a week before the building is finished.

In what will be the third-largest mural in Pennsylvania, Pilato will depict 40 different historical figures in Greater Pittston lore. The centerpiece of the mural will feature former Pittston Area standout Jimmy Cefalo and his “Spaghetti Story.” The other characters on the mural were nominated by the community.

On Saturday, Sept. 5, the mural will be officially unveiled with many of the painted characters on hand to see the giant painting.
