WEST WYOMING — Engineer Michael Amato reported that the Shoemaker Avenue Bridge project is “ahead of the scheduled completion date” during the borough council’s regular meeting Monday.

Councilman Daniel Grescavage said that the target date for completion is set for Oct. 24. Amato added that PennDOT and the contractors are working diligently to finish all work prior to the scheduled target date.

Councilwoman Eileen Cipriani to urged all residents to complete the income surveys that were sent to them in the mail.

Completed surveys are needed from residents on Carolina Avenue, Florida Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, Oak Street and Watson Street.

Cipriani explained that the surveys are necessary in order for the borough to apply for grants, which would be used to pave West Wyoming’s roads.

In other matters: Councilman Michael Dolan publicly thanked all those who supported the West Wyoming Hose Co. No. 1’s recent blood drive. He said the hose company exceeded its donation goal by 50 percent and is looking forward to sponsoring future drives.

Dolan also announced that Hose Company No. 1 will hold a community yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29. The event will take place at the hose company on Shoemaker Avenue. Spaces are $15 per table. Contact Jayne at 570-954-4531 for more information.

In addition, Dolan read the Emergency Services report for July 2015, which included the following: 2 motor vehicle collisions, 5 engine company assists, 3 rescue company assists, 1 tree in roadway, 1 rehab assist, and 56 EMS calls.

Councilman Walter Stevens announced that the borough will participate in a community shredding event during the month of September. The exact date has not yet been determined, Stevens said, but it most likely will be “on an early Saturday afternoon” during the month.

The council’s next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14.
