Areas of significant congestion could greet commuters and travelers on their New Year’s Eve commute.

There is free-flowing traffic Thursday morning on Interstate 81 as well as Routes 309 and 380, but motorists should be conscious of some slight congestion or even spotty stop and go traffic on both the northbound and southbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike between Taylor and Old Forge.

Areas of minor congestion might also sprout up this morning on William Street and Route 11 in Pittston.

Down Wilkes-Barre and the surrounding areas appear to be clear with some minor traffic on South River Street near the Market Street Bridge.
