Miles to attend Harvard summit

PITTSTON TWP. — Pittston Area High School student, Christopher Miles, son of Andria Argo and James Miles of Pittston Township, has been invited to attend a six-day summit at Harvard University in June.

Through Global Young Innovators Initiative, Miles will be working with other students and leaders to help other countries solve environmental and social challenges. He was nominated for the initiative by Pittston Area High School faculty member Laura Brady.

Vullo graduates from Bucknell

LEWISBURG — Pittston resident Louis Vullo graduated from Bucknell University on May 22.

Pursnani named to dean’s list

BETHLEHEM — Suraj Pursnani, Pittston, was named to the Lehigh University dean’s list for the 2016 spring semester, which is awarded for earning a 3.6 GPA or better while carrying at least 12 hours of regularly graded courses.

Obeid named to dean’s list

LEWISBURG — Matthew Obeid, Pittston, has been named to the dean’s list at Bucknell University for the 2016 spring semester by achieving a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Five King’s grads earn awards

WILKES-BARRE — Five Greater Pittston residents recently earned academic awards at the 67th annual commencement exercises at King’s College.

Thomas Bubul, West Pittston, received the the highest academic achievement presented to an adult student in Continuing Higher Education and the Vincent D. Garvey Jr. Memorial Award for English. He graduated with summa cum laude honors with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

Edward Klein, Duryea, received the William G. McGowan School of Business Achievement Award for Marketing. He graduated with magna cum laude honors with a Bachelor of Science Business Administration in marketing.

Cory Poplawski, Pittston Township, received the Award for Computers and Information Systems. He graduated with magna cum laude honors with a Bachelor of Science in computers and information systems.

Jonathan Scrobola, Wyoming, received the Regina Award for Biology. He graduated with summa cum laude honors with a bachelor’s degree in biology.

Rachel Simon, Pittston, received the William G. McGowan School of Business Achievement Award for International Business. She graduated with magna cum laude honors with a Bachelor of Science Business Administration degree in international business.

Gober named to dean’s list

ANNVILLE — Wyoming resident Julia Gober was recently named to the Lebanon Valley College dean’s list for 2016 spring semester for maintaining a GPA of at least a 3.4.

Suchecki runs Boston Marathon

PITTSTON TWP. — Maureen Suchecki, of Pittston Township, ran the Boston Marathon on April 18. Suchecki, a Pittston Area graduate, ran for the Patriots’ cross country team. She also ran at Penn State Worthington and Penn State University Main Campus, University Park, State College. She is a 2013 graduate of Penn State and is an assistant cross country coach at Penn State Worthington, Scranton.

DeMace recieves degree

WILKES-BARRE — Sarah DeMace, daughter of Dominick and Sabah Webby-DeMace of Dupont, graduated from King’s College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in professional writing.

Crake named Jacob Albright Scholar

READING — Sarah Crake, West Pittston, has been named a Jacob Albright Scholar.

Lifetime membership in the Society of Jacob Albright Scholars is awarded to Albright College graduates who have completed at least half their course work at Albright and who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.7 or higher. An induction ceremony was held Saturday, May 21.

Crake graduated Albright on Sunday, May 22, with a Bachelor of Arts in theatre.

Blannett graduates

ELIZABETHTOWN — Stephanie M. Blannett, West Pittston, was one of 508 graduates took center stage for Elizabethtown College’s 113th commencement May 14.

Blannett graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social work.

A boy was born to Erica Walsh and Mike Hughes, Harding, on May 13.
