The sixth annual bazaar will be held from Thursday, June 23 to Saturday, June 25. Hours of operation for each day will be 6 to 10 p.m. June 23 and 24, and 4:30 to 10 p.m. June 25. The bazaar will feature a full menu of ethnic and traditional foods, beer and wine, a basket raffle, children’s games, a giant flea market, and live entertainment from local bands. The live entertainment will be featured from 6 to 10 p.m. each day and the schedule includes Handsome Devils on June 23, Iron Cowboy on June 24 and the Sperazza Band on June 25.

Hours are 6 to 11 p.m. on July 8 with music by Group Du Jour from 7 to 11 p.m.; 5 to 11:30 p.m. July 9 with music by The Sperazza Band from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.; and 4 to 10 p.m. July 12 with music by Hometown Boyz from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be a giant indoor flea market, cash raffle, beautiful baskets and variety stands. There will also be children’s games and other various games of choice. Ethnic and picnic foods include wings, hand-dipped ice cream and a bake sale with homemade potato pancakes.

In a continuing effort to promote a culture of life, Queen of the Apostles Parish’s Social Concerns/Respect Life Ministry are providing prayer cards and medals to expectant mothers or women who are having difficulty conceiving. Anyone who would like a card for themselves or someone else can contact the parish office at 570-457-3412.

There will be a Divine Mercy enthronement service following the 7 p.m. Mass on Wednesday, June 29. This act of consecration and enthronement of a family to the Divine Mercy is a way to publicly acknowledge Jesus as King of Mercy in their parish and home. In the next few weeks, parishioners and friends are invited to register for an enthronement package, which contains further information about the Divine Mercy and the enthronement process along with a certificate of consecration of family members, living and deceased.

The parish will hold its fifth annual all-you-can-eat pig roast from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 17, on the grounds of the parish hall in the former St. Mary’s School, corner of Hawthorne and Spring streets. Takeout dinners will be available all day. The event will take place under a tent and in the school auditorium. The menu includes roasted pig on the spit, wimpies, hot dogs, corn on the cob, salads, desserts, soda, and water. There will also be a cash prize grand raffle, basket raffle, children’s games and a bake sale. Tickets, which are $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children ages 5 and younger, are available in advance or at the event. Queen of the Apostles parishioners will make a pilgrimage to the National Shrine of Divine Mercy, Stockbridge, Massachusetts, with the Oblates of St. Joseph Laity Association on Monday, Aug. 22 to celebrate the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy and the Feast of the Queenship of Mary. The bus leaves at 7 a.m. from the Oblates of St. Joseph, 1880 Highway 315,Pittston, and departs at 5 p.m. from the shrine. The picnic committee will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 16 in the church hall.

Members of the Holy Name Society will receive as a group at the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, June 19 in honor of Father’s Day.

A “Food, Friendship and Farewell for Father Verespy” will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 3 in the church hall. Reservation forms can be found on the church bulletin and returned to the rectory.

The new pastor, Fr. Thomas Petro, will arrive Wednesday, July 6.

The annual parish picnic will take place from Thursday, Aug. 4 to Saturday, Aug. 6 on the parish grounds. Non-perishable food items and paper products to be used in the food basket stand are being collected. Containers have been placed in the church vestibule for items and collection of items will end Sunday, July 10.

Help is needed before, during and after the picnic. Kitchen help is needed from 4 p.m. to midnight on the nights of the picnic. Duties include heating food, and washing pots and pans. Contact the rectory to sign up.

This year’s St. Joseph Marello Parish Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, June 12 at the Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf Course with a tee off time of 8 a.m. The fee is $80 per golfer which includes golf, cart, dinner after the tournament and a variety of prizes. The event will feature two hole in one prizes — one for $10,000 sponsored by the law firm of Saporito, Falcone and Watt and the other a new two-year car lease from Coccia Ford Lincoln. Registration forms are now available on line at and paper applications will be available in the Church vestibule.

The Knights of Columbus Council 16071 will hold a steak and eggs breakfast at the parish center Sunday, June 19. The menu will includes steak, cheese omelette, potatoes, and beverages. Tickets will be available from any Knight or at the rectory and cost $15 for adults and $8 for children under age 12.

Hiawatha Paddle Boat ride to Williamsport will be Saturday, July 16. The ride begins at 4 p.m. and will last about one hour. Each group must purchase their own tickets, prices are as follows: Children ages three to 12, $4.50; Adults ages 13 to 60, $8.50; Seniors ages 60 and older, $8. Groups must arrive 10 minutes early. Sign up sheet is in the Narthex of the church. Outside parties can sign up by calling 570-655-2505.

Vacation Bible School will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. from Monday, July 18 to Thursday, July 21 for children ages 3 to 13. this year’s theme is “Expedition Norway.” A family friendly dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. each day and family members and friends are encouraged to join in daily for a closing celebration starting at 7:50 p.m.

St. John’s is renting out the lower level for non-members for events. Cost is $25 per hour plus a $25 per hour security fee. Cost for members of St John’s is $12.50 per hour and a $12.50 security deposit, maximum four-hour limit.

The Greater Pittston Kids Clothes Closet is open on Wednesdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.

The Care and Concern Free Health Clinic is open every Wednesday and is free of charge. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. in the former Seton Catholic High School and is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Patients for The Pediatric Health Clinic are now being seen on the first Thursday and third Thursday of the month at Dr. Imbrogno’s office at 570-855-6035 until further notice. Children’s immunization records are required upon registration. Parents or guardians must be present to have their child examined. All services are free and confidential.

The food pantry always in need of the following items: cereal, tuna, peanut butter, jelly, canned fruit, soups, vegetables, canned hams and other non-perishable items. Call 570-654-9923 for more information.

The annual bazaar will be held from Thursday, Aug. 4 to Saturday, Aug. 6 on the church grounds. Hours of operation are from 5 to 10 p.m. Aug. 4 and 5 and from 5 to 10:30 p.m. Aug. 6. Food includes halushki, potato pancakes, hot dogs, hamburgers, cheesesteaks, porketta, pulled pork, apple pie, fried dough and funnel cake. There will be live entertainment each night, children’s games and a holiday booth that includes decorations for different holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day and others.

Urgency of the New Evangelization will be held at the parish on Saturday, Oct. 22 with special guest speaker Dr. Ralph Martin, a professor at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit. He has written extensively and hosts a National TV Show. More information will follow as the event gets closer.
