Oak tree planted in West Pittston to honor late Wyoming Area graduate John Anthony ‘Beno’ Borzell

An oak tree was planted in the West Pittston Borough Park in memory of John Anthony ‘Beno’ Borzell, Wyoming Area Class of 2007 and Wilkes University Class of 2011. The tree was donated and planted by the 2016 recipients of the Borzell scholarship which is awarded annually to students from Wyoming Area.     WEST PITTSTON — An oak tree was planted in the West Pittston Borough Park in memory of John Anthony “Beno” Borzell, Wyoming Area Class of 2007 and Wilkes University Class of 2011.

    The tree was donated and planted by the 2016 recipients of the Borzell scholarship, which is awarded annually to students from Wyoming Area. This year’s recipients are Kayla Wedlock, Wilkes University; Nicole Wright, University of South Florida; Matthew Dovidas, Clarion University; Ryan Murphy, Dickinson College; and Nico Vasquez, King’s College.

    The scholarship is awarded to seniors who are Wyoming Area scholar-athletes who have been accepted into a four-year bachelor’s degree program majoring in environmental science or a related science.

    Volunteers who helped in the planting process include Joe Holly, Rich Murawski, Luke Berti and John Arnone.
