Wyoming Area grad completes military training

SAN ANTONIO, TX — U.S. Air Force Airman Francis A. Smith graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

Smith completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Those who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Smith is the son of Christopher and Vannessa Smith, of Exeter, and is a 2016 Wyoming Area graduate.

Kross named Clinical Manager

TUNKHANNOCK — Theodore Kross, Exeter, was named Clinical Manager of the Year at Commonwealth Health Tyler Memorial Hospital.

Kross, a registered nurse for more than 35 years, has served as director of emergency services at Tyler since August 2015. He previously was the director of the Wilkes-Barre City Health Department and director of emergency services and urgent care centers at Calvert Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md., and worked in various nursing positions locally.

A graduate of Bishop Hoban High School, he earned a diploma from Pittston Hospital School of Nursing, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in health care administration from King’s College.

Kross is a member of the local Speakers Bureau, Moose International and coaches youth athletic teams.

He and his wife, Gina, also a registered nurse, have four children, Karissa, Kayla, Kaitlyn and Gavin.

Riviello named 2016 Employee of the Year

SCRANTON — Commonwealth Health Moses Taylor Hospital recently announced that Mary Jeanne Riviello, Old Forge, has been named 2016 Employee of the Year.

Riviello has been with the hospital since 1981 and serves as the core measures abstractor in quality and safety. She graduated from the CMC School of Nursing and Marywood College.

Riviello and her husband, Francis, have a son, Bryan, and a daughter-in-law, Alison.

Thomas named to deans list

BURLINGTON, V.T. — Anna Thomas, Exeter, was recently named to the University of Vermont deans list for the 2016 fall semester.

Thomas is majoring in Environmental Sciences in the College of Arts & Sciences.
