PITTSTON — St Joseph Marello’s Parish Administrator, Rev. John Shearer O.S.J., and its Holy Name Society, announce Msgr. John J. Bendisk as the speaker and Peter J. Adonizio as toastmaster for its annual Smoker at 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 2 at S. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William St.

Msgr. Bendik is a native of Kingston and currently the pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church in Pittston. He attended public elementary schools in Kingston and graduated from West Central Catholic High School in 1959. He studied for the priesthood at St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in Indiana. He was ordained on May 27, 1967 by Bishop J. Carroll McCormick.

Adonizio was born and raised in Pittston and graduated from Scranton Preparatory School, earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Leo University, Florida and received a diploma of funeral service from Simmons Institute of Mortuary Science, Syracuse, NY in 1983.

He founded the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home on Susquehanna Avenue in West Pittston in 2001 and operated there until September 2011 when Tropical Storm Lee led to the flooding of the Susquehanna River. That event caused him to relocate his business to 251 William St., Pittston, the location of the former Carl F. Adonizio Funeral Home.
