EXETER — West Pittston Tomorrow, along with local business Ballyhoo Ice Cream, announces that Wyoming Area Secondary Center senior Tristan Sokach-Minnick has been selected as the very first recipient of the newly established West Pittston Tomorrow Scholarship.
Sokach-Minnick was selected from several candidates. His community activities as well as involvement in the community are what separated him from his peers.
The project Sokach-Minnick is most proud of is a fundraiser he undertook on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout. He decided to head a project to support single women in need on behalf of his parish and the project far exceeded his expectations, creating a lasting connection between the women’s organization and the church today.
Along with other classmates, Sokach-Minnick was also involved in the creation of a new club at Wyoming Area, the Environmental Awareness and Protection Club (LEAP) that focuses on community improvement and environment projects.
He plans to pursue a degree in the environmental sciences and biology.
This is the fist year for the West Pittston Tomorrow scholarship and it is awarded to a West Pittston resident based on academic achievement and community involvement.
