HAZLETON — Ray Hopkins, son of Francis and Judey Hopkins, of West Pittston, recently made his debut as Anthony Hope in the Pennsylvania Theatre of Performing Arts (PTPA) version of “Sweeney Todd.”

A 2015 graduate of Wyoming Area, Hopkins just finished his sophomore year at Temple University, where he is studying theater.

Some of his previous characters include The Beast in “Beauty & the Beast,” Mr. Frank in “Anne Frank” and Albert Peterson in “Bye Bye Birdie” at Wyoming Area. He portrayed Kevin Rosario in “In the Heights” and Sweeney Todd at Wyoming Seminary.

At Temple, Hopkins played Friar Thomas & Abhorson in “Measure for Measure” and most recently was in the ensemble for “She Loves Me.”

Performances of “Sweeney Todd” will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27 as well as at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 28 at the PTPA’s theater at 12 W. Broad St, Hazleton.
