Senator John Yudichak and Representative Mike Carroll have received the top legislators of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries for 2015. This follows the award as Library Citizen of the Year received by Barbara Quinn in 2014 from the same organization.

Both Yudichak and Carroll were nominated by the Pittston Memorial Library and have been instrumental in the successful capital campaign to raise $1.5 million for a 5175 square foot expansion project that has resulted in a new children’s wing, activity room, and a community conference center.

Caroline Jones, a sophomore at King’s College and a resident of Mountain Top, is featured on the national “22 Under 22 Most Inspiring College Women” list released recently by “Her Campus,” an internet community for college women, serving over 6 million monthly users with chapters at over 270 colleges nationwide and in seven countries.

This list recognizes 22 ambitious, talented, and big-thinking college women in America who are influencers on campus and beyond, demonstrate leadership, excel academically, and achieving milestones in personal interests.

Jones is double majoring in business management and marketing with a minor in leadership studies.

Benjamin Krouse, son of Ronald and Daryl Krouse, Hunlock Creek, has been named as Northwest Area’s Student of the Month for September. Krouse is a member of National Honor Society, student council, concert choir, and serves as president of both the Adventure Club and Chess Club.

He has been an Activities Committee Member for Northwest’s Mini-Thon 2015. He volunteered for the Luzerne County Fair, Vacation Bible Schools, assisted with various Wilkes Barre Rotary dinners, and assisted with Veteran flag replacement for Veterans Day. He is an Eagle Scout and enjoys being a pole vaulter on the track team.

Richard P. Conaboy, Jr., vice president of clinical affairs, Clearbook Treatment Centers, will be the keynote speaker at the 6th Annual National Family Week Conference presented by Family Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania (FSA of NEPA).

Dr. Michael Hogan, PhD. from Hogan Health Solutions, will be the opening session speaker. He willl speak on the New Developments in Suicide Prevention.

Suicide Prevention: Creating a Community of Hope and Caring will be the topic for the conference set for 8:45 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, at Genetti Hotel and Convention Center, E. Market Street, Wilkes Barre. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and space is limited.

A donation of $20 is required to attend. This donation includes a continental breakfast and luncheon along with the conference materials and access to over 13 exhibitors providing information pertinent to the topic and one-on-one consultation with the conference attendees throughout the day.
