WYOMING — Fourth grade students at the Tenth Street Elementary School were treated to a guest speaker, Mae Thomas, a child of a Titanic survivor.

The program was in conjuction with a story the students had just finished regarding the events of the sinking of the Titanic, a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912. The luxury liner collided with an iceberg during its maiden voyage to New York. More than 1, 500 people died.

Thomas shared her mother and infant brother’s survival story aboard the Titanic along with many other tales.

Bill Lewis of the Luzerne County Historical Society gave a Power Point presentation.
