Science activities to be held Nov. 19
PITTSTON — Children ages 7 and up are invited to the library for a science activity at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19.
The Fangirls Fan Club will be doing a Story Chains Writing Night program in which the students will write a little piece and link them together to form one complete story at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19.
Book Club will be meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 23 to discuss “You Knew Me When” by Emily Liebert. Light refreshments will be served and new members are always welcome.
The Fourth Annual Handmade Holiday Gift Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.
Penn State Master Gardeners will be at the Pittston library to talk about preparing gardens for the spring season. Classes are $4 each, payable at the front door or in advance or $10 for all classes of this series. You do not need to attend the series, just come to the ones you would like. The last date for the series is 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
Barnes & Noble in Wilkes-Barre Township is holding a book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13. Bring a couple, available at the library circulation desk, to Barnes & Noble and the library will receive a percentage of the sale to purchase new books.
Children ages 18 months to age 5 can bring their grownup to the library for fun story, craft and free play from 6 to 6:45 p.m. on Monday evenings. Registration is required by calling the library.
Tales on Tuesday with Miss Kristin features age-appropriate stories, songs, activities and free play. Registration is required by calling 570-654-9565, ext. 26. Sign-ups are available in the children’s wing.
Adult computer classes will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Thursday. The class goes over email, mouse skills and web surfing. Registration is required by calling the library.
Volunteer opportunities are available at the library. Opportunities include helping in the library, or with the Friends of the Pittston Library group. If interested, fill out a volunteer form at the front desk.
Board games for all ages are available at the front desk and can be used anytime.
Children ages 3 to 11 are invited to the Lego Club from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the Pittston Memorial Library.
The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program at the library is free and open to all children in the community from birth to kindergarten. The child will receive a bag with an age-appropriate book to keep in his or her collection.
Homework help is offered from 3 to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday for children in grades 1-5. All subjects are available.
WEST PITTSTON LIBRARY
‘SAY! Geronimo’ is Tuesday
WEST PITTSTON — “SAY! Geronimo!” will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Decipher codes, go on a newspaper scavenger hunt, taste cheese and explore the Geronimo Stilton app. This program is for ages 7 and up and registration is required.
Stop in any time between 4 and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18 to create duct tape crafts as gifts for the holiday season or just for yourself. All supplies and instructions will be provided. Registration is required.
International Game Day will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21. Games available to play include giant floor checkers, Spot It, Guess Who, and Uno. Play Giant Connect Four and stay for Human War. Registration is required.
Chain scarf sewing will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24. In this project you will learn the chain stitch and create a scarf with multiple rows of chains. You will need one skein of medium weight yarn and a medium sized crochet hook (G/6/4mm or H/8/5mm). To register for this program, call the library or stop in.
The West Pittston Library Book Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month.
Antiheroes in Literature Book Discussion will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays. The group includes an informal discussion and refreshments while examining popular fiction’s more unconventional characters. Call the library to register for this free program.
The Library Laboratory is back every Tuesday at 6 p.m. to continue engaging kids ages 9 and up in science-based, hands-on learning activities. Measure, mix, compare, experiment and test in a fun environment. Class size is limited.
Kindergarten Readiness Program will be held at 1 p.m. every Friday. This early-literacy enhanced program is designed to introduce children to the library, get them interested in books and develop the skills needed for school. Register by Wednesday of each week.
WYOMING FREE LIBRARY
Fashion Show will be held Nov. 22
WYOMING — The Sewing Club will host its Second Annual Fashion Show at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22. Light refreshments will be served.
The library is hosting a Fill-A-Bag book sale and holiday sale on from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1 and Wednesday, Dec. 2. The library is seeking the following books and holiday items for the upcoming sale:
• Adult fiction – hardcover and paperback
• Children – chapter books, easy readers, picture books
• Cookbooks, sports, biographies
• Holiday items for all major holidays (Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc.)
The library will not accept textbooks, medical books, magazines, Readers’ Digest condensed books, reference, travel, books that are stained or have no covers or Christmas trees.
Donations for the sale can be dropped off during normal business hours. The cost per bag is $5.
Pre-school story time for children between ages 3 and 5 will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Mondays through Nov. 23 and again on Monday, Dec. 7 and 14. There will be story time on Nov 30.
The library will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday from Thursday, Nov. 26 to Saturday, Nov. 28. It will reopen Sunday, Nov. 29.
The library will host a wine making and tasting event on from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4. Tickets are $15 per person and $25 per couple and are available at the circulation desk.
A Charlie Brown Christmas party will be held from 11 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5. Children of all ages are invited to make Charlie Brown-themed activities followed by Snoopy snacks. Space is limited, so please call or Facebook the library to register.
The next “Tea Tips and Treasures” themed tea party will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 12 with a theme of a Doll Christmas Party. There will be tea and a snack, an interactive display and a short workshop. Children can dress up and bring a doll or stuffed animal to match the theme. All programs are for ages 3 and up. There is no cost for the program and an adult must stay with the child. Contact Lindsay at the library for any information and to sign up one week ahead.
The Wyoming Free Library Lego Club will meet from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 12. This program is free and suitable for children of all ages. Registration is required.
The Crocheting Club will meet every Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
LAFLIN LIBRARY
Library association meeting Tuesday
LAFLIN — The Laflin Library Association will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17. New members are always welcome.
To celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday, adults visiting the library and borrowing a book will have an opportunity to enter their name into a random drawing for a gift card. Student readers, grade 7 through grade 12, borrowing a book will have an opportunity to enter their name into a random drawing for a cash prize. The drawing will be held Saturday, Nov. 21 and winners will be notified Tuesday, Nov. 24.
The library will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday from Thursday, Nov. 26 through Saturday, Nov. 28. The library will reopen at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
