PITTSTON ACTIVE ADULT CENTER

Geisinger presenting ‘Sleep 101’ Dec. 16

PITTSTON — Nick and Pam from Geisinger will present a program on “Sleep 101” at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at the Pittston Active Adult Center. Blood pressure screenings will be available at that time as well.

Jim Slocum from AARP will speak on winter driving at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17. He will share tips on how to drive safely on winter road conditions. The public is welcomed to attend.

The 2016 Bowling League is now forming. There will be a special meetingat 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17 for all bowlers. Bowling will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7 and continue for 14 weeks. Anyone interested in joining this league is asked to attend this meeting as teams will be set up at that time. Information about this league will be discussed at that time and any questions will be addressed as well. This is guaranteed bowling and only those interested in committing to 14 weeks should attend. December birthdays will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 18. One lucky member will be the winner of the birthday basket. Participants must be present for lunch to be eligible for this basket.

The center is now accepting donations of toys for Toys for Tots. To donate a toy, drop it off during the center’s hours of operation. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.

A trip is planned to Sight & Sound Theater in Lancaster to see the new production of “Samson” on Wednesday, April 27. For further details or to make reservations, contact Connie Kokinda at 570-655-5561.

The center offers ballroom dance lessons with Joseph Kull, instructor. Classes are from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursdays. Cost per class is $2 per person and class size is limited.

Exercise classes are offered at the center at 9 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Healthy Steps classes with Ruth and Catherine are held at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays. Sit and Be Fit chair exercise classes with Sandi are held at 9 a.m. on Thursdays. There is no charge for these classes. Zumba Gold classes with Tony are held from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. on Tuesdays. Cost per class is $2.

Bridge players interested in forming a bridge club may contact Connie at 570-655-5561. The club would meet Wednesday and/or Friday afternoons.

Pitch games will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Free coffee is available from 8:30 a.m. to closing.

Lunch is served at noon Monday to Friday. Asking donation is $2 for those 60 years of age or older and $4.62 for those under 60 years of age. Reservations must be made by noon at least one day in advance. To make reservations, call the center at 570-655-5561.

FALLS ACTIVE ADULT CENTER

Make homemade chocolate on Dec. 14

EXETER TWP. — Homemade chocolates will be made from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Monday, Dec. 14 at the Falls Active Adult Center. It is mandatory to RSVP for this activity so that supplies can be provided. All supplies are free and the chocolates are for the residents to take home for their families.

Lunch & Learn will be at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17. State Rep. Aaron Kaufer will give legislative updates and will answer any questions.

December birthdays will be celebrated with a lunch on Friday, Dec. 18. Following lunch, at 1 p.m., Santa will visit.

The center will be closed on Friday, Dec. 25 for the Christmas holiday.

Lunch & Learn at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28 will be with Jessica Budzak from Wyoming Alcohol & Drug to discuss gambling awareness.

New Year’s Eve special lunch and party will be held Thursday, Dec. 31.

The book club will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 4 to discuss “Breaker Boys” by Markus Zusak.

The following activities are available throughout the week to anyone ages 50 and older at the Falls Active Adult Center:

Mondays: 10:30 a.m. to noon, Craft Club meets. Many projects are offered with all supplies provided.

Tuesdays: Brain games at lunch. Bingo following lunch.

Wednesdays: 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Walking group meets, weather permitting. Nutrition tips at lunch.

Thursdays: Nutrition talks at lunch. Bingo will be held following lunch.

Fridays: 9:30 a.m. to noon Geocaching activity, weather permitting. Free Zumba Gold from 9:15 to 10 a.m.

The Falls Active Adult Center recently started the Garden Project. Anyone interested in gardening is welcome to participate. The group meets on Wednesdays.

Anyone wishing to join the Falls Active Adult Center for a hot meal each day at noon for a suggested donation of $2 for those 60 and over and $4.62 for those under 60 should call Twila at 570-388-2623 by 12:30 p.m. the day before.

JENKINS TOWNSHIP SENIORS

Meeting will be Dec. 15

JENKINS TWP. — The Jenkins Township Senior Citizens’ regular monthly meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at the Jenkins Township Hose House at 2 2nd St. President Jean Mudlock will preside at the business meeting. Following the business meeting, members and guests will enjoy the catered annual Christmas party. Prizes will be awarded. The evening will wrap up with the regular Bingo games. Members are reminded that there will be no meeting in January or February.
