Sunshine is expected to usher in the new year for the Wyoming Valley, but rain will be possible before then.

The National Weather Service indicated that it was 37 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, with fog and mist reported.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected today, but there will be a 40 percent chance of showers after 4 p.m. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, and today’s high will be near 45.
