Book club to meet Monday
PITTSTON — The book club at the Pittston Memorial Library will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22 to discuss Jess Walter’s “Beautiful Ruins.”
Friends of the Pittston Memorial Library will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the library board room. The group meets the fourth Monday of every month and membership is open to all interested in promoting programs for the library.
Pre-Oscar Party will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, Tuesday, Feb. 23 and Thursday, Feb. 25. The evenings will feature screenings of the nominees’ movies just in time for the big night. Monday will be “Inside Out,” Tuesday will be “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and Thursday will be “Bridge of Spies.” All movies will be shown in the in the community room. The library will host a painting event at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Paint N’ Pinot, 113 S. Main St. The cost for this fundraiser is $35 and the painting will be a vase full of shamrocks to get in the St. Patrick’s Day mood. Children ages one to 11 are invited to a Wee Build Open House at anytime on Thursday, Feb. 25 and Friday, Feb. 26. These toys allow for a variety of opportunities for children to express themselves through play which promotes development in many skill areas such as social-emotional, physical development, mathematics, science, language arts, and art.
Kids age 18 months to 11 years are invited to read for fun this February and help to build the tallest Lego tower. Participants are to report each week in February for prizes and chances to win the grand prize of a Lego Builder Kit. Weekly activities include I-Spy, crafts and science. Kids 18 months to age 5 can bring their grownup to the library for a fun story, craft and free play on Monday evenings from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Registration is required by calling the library. A new session begins Monday, March 7 and concludes Monday, April 11.
Tales on Tuesday with Miss Kristin features age appropriate stories, songs, activities, and free play for infants, toddlers and pre-school age children. The programs are as follows: Books and Babies for ages newborn to 18 months at 9:30 a.m., Terrific Twos for ages 18 months to 3 years at 10:30 a.m., and Preschool Pals ages 3 to 5 years at 11:30 a.m. Registration is required. Sign-ups are available in our children’s wing or by calling the library children’s department A new session begins Tuesday, March 8 and concludes Tuesday, April 12.
Children ages 7 and up are invited to the library for a fun science activity. The next meeting is at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 24.

WEST PITTSTON LIBRARY
Make scarfs on Feb. 23
WEST PITTSTON — A program teaching how to make a rope-like scarf with the basic chain and double-crochet stitch will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23. Some basic crochet knowledge or experience is recommended. Participants will need one skein of medium weight yarn and a medium sized crochet hook (G/6/4 mm or H/8/5 mm). Call the library to register for free.
Read Across America will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m. celebrating the work of Dr. Seuss with an afternoon of theme-related activities. All ages are welcome to this free event. Call the library to register.
WYOMING FREE LIBRARY
Preschool story time is Monday
WYOMING — Preschool story time for children between ages 3-5 will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Feb. 22 through March 21.
There will be a fill-a-bag book sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27. The cost per bag is $5.
The LEGO Club will meet on following Saturdays from 11 a.m. to noon on Feb. 27 and March 12. This program is free and suitable for children of all ages. Registration is required.
The library will begin the third year of its “Tea Tips and Treasures” themed tea parties on the third Saturday of the month from noon to 1 p.m. There will be tea and a snack, an interactive display and a short workshop. Children can dress up and bring a doll or stuffed animal to match each theme. Ages 3 and up may attend. There is no cost for the program and an adult must stay with the child. Sign up one week ahead. The library is seeking sponsors and item donations for each program. For sponsorship details, a list of donations or to sign up a child; contact Lindsay at the library.

The library is holding classes on how to turn old t-shirts into memory quilts and wall hangings. The classes will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. from Friday, March 4 until Friday, March 18 and from Friday, April 1 until Friday, April 15. The classes are limited to eight and registration is required. There will be an initial $5 registration fee to cover printing costs and any extra materials. The money will be collected at the first class. The library has a limited number of machines, so participants are encouraged to bring their own machine. Participants should have sewing experience.
