St. Patrick’s Day Dinner is March 17

PITTSTON — The St. Patrick’s Day Special Dinner and Party will be held on Thursday, March 17 at the Pittston Active Adult Center. Dinner reservations must be made at least one day in advance. Asking donation for 60 or older is $2. Dinner will be served at noon. The party will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Cost of the party is $3 which includes light refreshments and music by Bob Perks. Participants must register in advance for the St. Patrick’s Day Party.

A four-hour AARP Safe Drivers Course will be offered on Friday, May 6. This is a refresher course and is only offered to individuals who have completed either the two-part Basic Course or Refresher Course in the past three years. Those who complete this course and are at least 55 years of age may be eligible for a five percent car insurance discount for the next three years. Ceramic Class with Ann is held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays while Bingo with Ron and Amy is held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Friday mornings and also from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons.

The center offers ballroom dance lessons with Joseph Kull, instructor at 2 p.m. on Fridays.

Exercise classes are offered at the center at 9 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Healthy Steps classes with Ruth and Catherine are held at 11 a.m. Tuesdays. Sit and Be Fit chair exercise classes with Sandi are held at 9 a.m. Thursdays. There is no charge for these classes. Zumba Gold classes with Tony are held from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. Tuesdays. Cost per class is $2.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Free coffee is available from 8:30 a.m. to closing.

Lunch is served at noon Monday to Friday. Asking donation is $2 for those 60 years of age or older and $4.62 for those under 60 years of age. Reservations must be made by noon at least one day in advance. To make reservations, call the center at 570-655-5561.

Book Club meets Monday

EXETER TWP. — Book Club will meet from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 7.

George Rittenhouse, singer and performer, will hold a concert from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 10. Lunch & Learn will be held afterwards at 12:20 p.m. Pam Gagliardi, a pharmacist from Walgreens, will give a short presentation on medication education and will provide free blood pressure screenings.

A special salad bar for Nutrition Month for will be available for lunch on Friday, March 11.

A representative from state Rep. Karen Boback’s office will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16 to answer any state-related questions.

A St. Patrick’s Day special lunch and party followed by an Irish sing along with the Jolly Seniors will be held on Thursday, March 17.

Homemade Easter chocolate making will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Monday, March 21. All supplies will be provided.

Lunch and Learn at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 24 will be with Pat Lawless from the Cancer Institute to discuss colorectal cancer.

Lunch and Learn special presentation by a student intern from Penn State Extension, entitled, “Savor the Flavor of Eating Right” will be on Thursday, March 31.

The following activities are available throughout the week to anyone ages 50 and older at the Falls Active Adult Center:

Mondays: 10:30 a.m. to noon, Craft Club meets. Many projects are offered with all supplies provided.

Tuesdays: Brain games at lunch. Bingo following lunch.

Wednesdays: 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. walking group meets, weather permitting. Nutrition tips at lunch.

Thursdays: Nutrition talks at lunch. Bingo will be held following lunch.

Fridays: 9:30 a.m. to noon Geocaching activity, weather permitting. Free Zumba Gold from 9:15 to 10 a.m.

Anyone wishing to join the Falls Active Adult Center for a hot meal each day at noon for a suggested donation of $2 for those 60 and over and $4.62 for those under 60 should call Twila at 570-388-2623 by 12:30 p.m. the day before.

Sands Casino trip is March 17

EXETER — A casino trip is scheduled to Sands Casino on March 17. Pickups are in Exeter and Pittston. Membership is not required to attend. Call Johanna at 570-655-2720 for reservations and information.

ST. JOSEPH’S SENIOR SOCIAL CLUB

St. Joseph’s Table is March 17

PITTSTON — St. Joseph’s Senior Social Club will hold a St. Joseph’s table in Mt. Carmel Center in Pittston on Thursday, March 17. The tradition is a three-tier table set with Italian foods, bread, pastry and fava beans among other things.

On Saturday, March 19, which is the Feast Day of St. Joseph, the club will go to 10:30 a.m. mass at the Oblates of St. Joseph on Route 315. After mass, the club will meet at Perkins for breakfast.

On Monday, March 21 there will be a St. Joseph’s day trip to the Villa Roma in Callicoon, New York. The day will include St. Joseph’s festivities. There will be an authentic St. Joseph’s table in the lobby and dinner in the dining room. After dinner there will be entertainment starring Elio Scaccio a well-renowned Italian entertainer. The club will play bingo in the Forum Room or members can explore the resort. The cost is $79, all inclusive.
