Luzerne County Human Services Division Head David Schwille is retiring April 7, which means three of the county’s eight division head positions are now vacant.
J. Allen Nesbitt’s resignation as correctional services division head took effect last week. That opening has been publicly advertised, with resumes due March 21.
The operational services division head position also has been vacant since Tanis Manseau abruptly resigned in October.
Acting county Manager C. David Pedri recently interviewed three finalists for the operational services position but told the county council he has decided to revise the job description and re-advertise the position.
Pedri informed the county council of Schwille’s retirement in an email today, saying Schwille has been a “key member of the management team” since he was hired in January 2014.
“Each of us who are drawn to public service do so with the hope to help people. Through over 40 years of employment in the human services field, Mr. Schwille has accomplished this goal and helped countless individuals,” Pedri wrote.
Pedri said the opening will be advertised “as expeditiously as possible.” The division head oversees the children and youth, aging, mental health, drug/alcohol and veteran affairs departments.
