Libraries work on joint projects
The Pittston Memorial Library, West Pittston Library and Wyoming Free Library will hold Amnesty Week from Monday, April 11 to Saturday, April 16. Patrons can bring in a non-perishable food item to the circulation desk and have $1 in current fines waived. Fines will not be waived for the following situations: previous fines for damaged or lost materials, magistrate fees, lost library cards or items that belong to other libraries in Luzerne County. All food collected will be donated to the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank.
The Pittston Memorial Library, West Pittston Library and Wyoming Free Library are holding a “Little Miss and Mister Library” contest. Children ages 7 to 10 who are members of either library are eligible. The applicants are required to submit an essay to their local library entitled, “What I Like About My Library.” Essay deadline is Saturday, April 23 and winners will be announced Monday, April 25. Ukrainian pysanky class is Monday
PITTSTON — The Pittston Memorial Library will be offering a Ukrainian pysanky class taught by Tammy Budnovitch from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 21. This class for adults teaches the basic steps of making a pysanky. The cost for the class is $20 per person which includes supplies needed. Space is limited and reservations will be made on a first come first serve basis. For more information, call the library.
Children ages 7 and up are invited to the library for a fun science activity. The next meeting is at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 24.
The next monthly book club meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 4 to discuss the book “We Were Liars” by E. Lockhart.
Teens age 12 to 18 are invited to participate in a free screening and discussion of the documentary film, “Miss Representation” with members of the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce Women’s Network at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, at the library. Snacks will be provided and registrations are required by emailing Noelle Kozak at email@example.com.
Kids aged 18 months to 5 years can bring their grownup to the library for a fun story, craft and free play on Monday evenings from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Registration is required by calling the library. This session concludes Monday, April 11.
Tales on Tuesday with Miss Kristin features age appropriate stories, songs, activities, and free play for infants, toddlers and pre-school age children. The programs are as follows: Books and Babies for ages newborn to 18 months at 9:30 a.m., Terrific Twos for ages 18 months to 3 years at 10:30 a.m., and Preschool Pals ages 3 to 5 years at 11:30 a.m. Registration is required. Sign-ups are available in our children’s wing or by calling the library children’s department. This session concludes Tuesday, April 12.

Become engaged in health care on Monday
WEST PITTSTON — A workshop to help participants learn how to become engaged in their health care will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 21 at the West Pittston Library. Healthcare providers will be available to teach how to obtain, process and understand basic health care information and services. Call the library to register.
Celebrate National Craft Month at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 24 by creating a custom engraved necklace with basic washers from a hardware store. Cost is $5. Call the library to register.
The library will be showing the films “Charlotte’s Web” at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29; “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 and “A Bear Called Paddington” at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 4. Call the library to register.
Sean Carroll, an adjunct instructor of English at Misericordia University and member of the Society for American Baseball Research, will give a presentation on some of the great writing that has celebrated the game of baseball with a special presentation at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 31. The Bedtime Math’s Crazy 8’s Club, a 8-week after school club designed to build children’s interest in math will begin in April. Children will participate in a different type of math club with activities and gadgets to bring home. The club is limited to the first 12 students in grades three through five. Preschool story time is Monday
WYOMING — Preschool story time for children between ages 3-5 will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday, March 21 at the Wyoming Free Library.
The library is hosting a Krispy Kreme doughnut fundraiser. The cost is $7.50 per dozen of glazed doughnuts and money is due when the order is placed. The sale starts on Monday, March 28 and ends on Monday, April 18. The pick-up date is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. Orders can be placed at the circulation desk.
The library will be closed on Good Friday, March 25.
The library is a sponsoring a children’s bookmark contest. The bookmark theme will highlight the library’s logo and slogan, “Adventures Beyond Books.” Entry forms are available at the circulation desk.
