Senior Citizens’ News: Volunteer Recognition Dinner will be April 14 at the Pittston, Falls centers

PITTSTON ACTIVE ADULT CENTER

Volunteers to be honored

PITTSTON — A Volunteer Special Recognition Dinner will be held on Thursday, April 14 at the Pittston Active Adult Center. All those who volunteer at least 12 hours a month in the past year will be honored. After dinner, all volunteers will be honored with an hour of special bingo.

All April birthdays will be celebrated at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, April 15. A food basket will be raffled off for one of the members whose birthday is being celebrated.

Highland Manor will conduct free blood pressure screenings at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19.

Tickets are on sale for the Spring Fling dance to be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. Cost is $7.50 which includes music by George Rittenhouse and light refreshments. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Tickets are on sale for the annual Senior Dinner Dance to be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 at Genetti’s Hotel in Wilkes-Barre. Cost to attend is $21 for seniors over the age of 60 and $23 for seniors under the age of 60. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and dinner will be served at 12:15 p.m. Entertainment will be by King Henry and the showmen. For further information, contact Connie or Hazel at the center.

A four-hour AARP Safe Drivers Course will be offered on Friday, May 6. This is a refresher course and is only offered to individuals who have completed either the two-part basic course or refresher course in the past three years. Those who complete this course and are at least 55 years of age may be eligible for a 5 percent car insurance discount for the next three years. Line dancing classes with Sue are held at 10 a.m. on Monday. Exercise classes with Catherine and Ruth are held at 9 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Sandi offers chair exercise classes at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and 9 a.m. on Thursdays. There is no charge for these classes.

Ceramic Class with Ann is held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays while Bingo with Ron and Amy is held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Friday mornings and also from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons.

The center offers ballroom dance lessons with Joseph Kull, instructor at 2 p.m. on Fridays. A small fee is charged.

Bridge lessons for beginners and those who want to refresh their skill are being scheduled for Friday afternoons. Contact Connie Kokinda at 570-655-5561 for more information.

FALLS ACTIVE ADULT CENTER

‘Spring Flowers’ class is Monday

EXETER TWP. — Book Club will meet from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 11 to discuss “No Second Chance” by Harlan Coben.

Craft group will make clay necklaces and earrings on Mondays, April 11 and 18.

A special volunteer recognition lunch will be held Thursday, April 14 with free blood pressure screenings done by Walgreens afterwards.

Lillian Russell-Burnett, Nutrition Education Advisor for Penn State Cooperative Extension, will conducts classes on teaching people how to eat better for less from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the following Thursdays — April 14, 21 and 28.

Singer and entertainer Johnny Diamond will be on hand from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Friday, April 15. Birthdays for April will also be celebrated.

A staff member from Rep. Aaron Kaufer’s office will be on hand from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20 to assist area residents with any state related issues they may have.

Bingo will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 21.

Neck and shoulder massages as well as manicures will be given by students from the Susquehanna County Career & Technology Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, April 25 under the supervision of Massage Therapy Instructor Jessica Warner.

COSMOPOLITAN SENIORS

Club meeting April 12

EXETER — The Cosmopolitan Seniors club will meet at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12 at 1 p.m. in St. Anthony’s Center. Hosts and hostesses are Ed Czachor, Joe Kleback, Marion Kratzer and George Mislan.

A casino trip is scheduled to Sands Casino on Thursday, April 14. Pickups are in Exeter and Pittston. It is not required to be a club member to join a trip. For more information, Call Johanna at 570-655-2720.
