Library closed May 30

PITTSTON — The Pittston Memorial Library will be closed Saturday, May 28 and Monday, May 30 for Memorial Day.

Tales on Tuesday with Miss Kristin features age appropriate stories, songs, activities, and free play for infants, toddlers and pre-school age children. Programs are as follows: Books and Babies for ages newborn to 18 months, 9:30 a.m.; Terrific Twos for ages 18 months to 3 years, 10:30 a.m.; Preschool Pals ages 3 to 5 years, 11:30 a.m. Registration is required and sign-ups are available in the children’s wing or by calling our children’s department. This session concludes Tuesday, May 31.

The next Furry Tails Reading Program will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11.

The library’s Summer Reading Program will begin registrations Monday, June 13 and the program itself will begin Monday, June 20 and conlcude Monday, July 25. this program is available to kids, teens and adults.

The Friends of the Pittston Memorial Library will hold a book sale form noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 23.

A gently used jewelry sale will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 23. Items for sale include sterling and costume necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings and more.

Penn Sate Master Gardener Series will hold its final presentation at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at the Pittston Memorial Library John P. Cosgrove Center with master gardener Marietta Garr. Participants will learn which type of tree to plant in a garden. The price for the seminar is $4 and can be paid in advance or at the door the evening of the event.

The library will have a temporary change of hours until further notice:

Monday and Thursday – Noon to 7 p.m.

Wednesday – Closed

Tuesday, Friday and Saturday – 9 to 4 p.m.

Volunteer opportunities are available at the library. Opportunities include helping in the library, or with the Friends of the Pittston Memorial Library group. If interested, fill out a volunteer form at the front desk.

Adult computer classes will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Thursday. The class goes over email, mouse skills and web surfing. Registration is required by calling the library.

The Crochet Club meets from 10 to 11:45 a.m. every Tuesday. Participants are asked to bring their own supplies including a hook sized I, J, or K yarn.

The Wee Build program is held Thursdays at 6 p.m. and Fridays at 10 a.m. for children ages 1 through 11. The new toys used promote development in many skills and allow children to express themselves through play. Stop by the library and start building.

Board games for all ages are available at the front desk and can be used anytime.

Children ages 3 to 11 are invited to the Lego Club from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the Pittston Memorial Library.

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program at the library is free and open to all children in the community from birth to kindergarten. The child will receive a bag with an age-appropriate book to keep in his or her collection.

WEST PITTSTON LIBRARY

Film program is June 4

WEST PITTSTON — The West Pittston Library will show the film “A Bear Called Paddington” at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4. Call the library to register.

The Library Laboratory is back every Tuesday at 6 p.m. to continue engaging kids ages 9 and up in science-based, hands-on learning activities. Measure, mix, compare, experiment and test in a fun environment. Class size is limited.

Antiheroes in Literature Book Discussion will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays. The group includes an informal discussion and refreshments while examining popular fiction’s more unconventional characters. Call the library to register for this free program.

The West Pittston Library Book Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month.

Kindergarten Readiness Program will be held at 1 p.m. every Friday. This early-literacy enhanced program is designed to introduce children to the library, get them interested in books and develop the skills needed for school. Register by Wednesday of each week.

WYOMING FREE LIBRARY

Book discussion June 4

WYOMING — The Ravenous Readers Book Discussion group will meet at the Wyoming Free Library from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4 to discuss the book, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl. The book discussion is free and open to children in grades 2 through 6. In addition to the book discussion, children will make lickable wallpaper, design a candy bar wrapper and invent their very own candy. Call the library to register.

Fill-a-bag book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11. The cost is $5 per bag and the library is accepting books for the sale.

LEGO Club will meet at the Wyoming Free Library from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday June 25. This program is free, but registrations are required.
