Sunshine is expected to kickoff the new week today, but the chance for rain and thunderstorms will stick around the Wyoming Valley through the midweek.

The National Weather Service indicated that it was 62 degrees as of 5:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, with fair skies reported.

Mostly sunny skies are expected today, with a high near 81. Clouds will accumulate tonight, and there will be a slight chance of showers. The low will be around 60.

Tuesday will bring partly sunny skies, but there will also be a 50 percent chance of showers — thunderstorms will also be possible after noon. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, and the high will be near 78.

Mostly cloudy skies will carry over into Tuesday night, along with a 30 percent chance of showers into the overnight hours. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, and the low will be around 52.

Partly sunny skies are predicted for Wednesday, along with a 30 percent chance of showers. The high will be near 65.

Partly cloudy skies will carry over into Wednesday night, with a low around 48.
