Meet Amye Archer July 18
PITTSTON — Amye Archer, author of “Fat Girl, Skinny” will be available for a meet-and-greet at 6 p.m. Monday, July 18 at the Pittston Memorial Library.
The summer reading program will conclude Monday, July 25. This program is available to kids, teens and adults.
“Rock-A-Thon with the Greater Pittston Community” will be held Friday, July 29. The purpose of the event is to keep a reading, rocking chair moving for seven hours straight, and those willing to participate can sign up for a 15-minute time slot. Participants can read whatever they would like. Call the library to sign up.
The library will have a temporary change of hours until further notice:
Monday and Thursday – 10:30 to 7 p.m.
Wednesday – Closed
Tuesday and Friday – 9 to 4 p.m.
Saturday – 9 to 1 p.m.

Database Spotlight continues
WEST PITTSTON —Database Spotlight will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays July 21 and Aug. 4 at the West Pittston Library. With just a library card, participants can access information from one of the library’s databases from their home or mobile device. Adult Programming Coordinator Jen Moran will be leading the series.
July 21, MedlinePlus — Medline Plus is the U.S. National Library of Medicine’s database that features medical encyclopedias, information on health topics, drugs and supplements as well as videos.
Aug. 4, LearningExpress — LearningExpress has tools to help students in school and adults entering the workforce or changing careers. From SAT test help to resume tools, LearningExpress has information and interactive tools to help.
• Wine & Cheese Twilight Paddle will be held Sunday, July 24. This three-hour twilight paddle trip runs from Harding to West Pittston giving a view of the river as the sun sets. Participants can bring snacks, water and water shoes (not flip-flops). Beginners and kayakers of all ages are welcome.
Participants are to meet at 3:30 p.m. at the library as the event will begin at 4:30 p.m. and conclude at 7 p.m. The wine and cheese celebration will be until 8 p.m.
Cost is $50 single kayak, $70 tandem kayak, $20 to provide your own boat and shuttle to the starting location.
A safety talk and quick kayak paddling lesson will be given and younger children must weigh over 40 pounds and should be in a tandem kayak with an adult. PFDs will be worn by everyone. The trip will run rain or shine.
Registration ends on Thursday, July 21 (no refunds after this date). Stop in or call the library to reserve a spot.
• The summer reading program and arts and crafts series at the West Pittston Library runs until Friday, Aug. 12 and includes reading, prizes, games, crafts, songs and fun.
WYOMING FREE LIBRARY
Necklace pendant workshop is July 16
WYOMING — A necklace pendant workshop will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 16. Registration is required and there is a $25 fee to cover the cost of materials. Payment is due at the registration.
Reading help will be available at the library for children in grades 1-4 from 1 to 3 p.m. every Wednesday. Call the library to register.
The Ravenous Readers Book Discussion will meet at noon Saturday, Sept. 10 to discuss “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl. The book discussion is free and open to children in grades 2-6. In addition to the book discussion, children will make lickable wallpaper, design a candy bar wrapper and invent their own candy. Call the library to register.
Sponsorships are needed for upcoming community activities. Information can be found on the library’s webpage or by contacting library director John Roberts.
LAFLIN PUBLIC LIBRARY
Program ends Aug. 13
LAFLIN — The Laflin Library’s Summer Reading Program will conclude Saturday, Aug. 13 with a pizza party and prizes for all who participate. This program is open to children ages 3 and older.
Until August, the library be open the following hours: 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
