Geri Fit continues Sept. 27

PITTSTON — The next session for Geri Fit Fitness will be held Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Pittston Active Adult Center. Geri Fit is held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday. This exercise program improves muscular strength, balance, coordination, motor skills, flexibility, arthritis and much more. Most of the exercises are performed seated in chairs. An AARP Smart Drivers four-hour refresher course will be offered at the center from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17. Cost of the class is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Participants may entitle to a 5 percent discount on automobile insurance if they are ages 55 or older and successfully complete this course. Participants should check with their insurance carrier for specifics on the program. Class size is limited and pre-registration is necessary by calling the center.

Line dancing classes with Sue are held at 10 a.m. Mondays. Exercise classes with Catherine and Ruth are held at 9 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Sandi offers chair exercise classes at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and 9 a.m. on Thursdays. There is no charge for these classes.

Ceramic Class with Ann is held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays while Bingo with Ron and Amy is held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Friday mornings and also from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoons.

Shuffleboard matches are held at 10 a.m. Wednesday mornings where the men challenge the women.

Craft class with Faye and Rosanne is held at 10 a.m. on Thursday mornings, as is Wii bowling with John.

The center offers ballroom dance lessons with Joseph Kull, instructor at 2 p.m. on Thursdays. A small fee is charged.

FALLS ACTIVE ADULT CENTER

Book Club meeting Sept. 12

EXETER TWP. — Book Club will meet from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12 to discuss “Having Our Say” by Amy Hill Hearth and Sarah Delany at the Falls Active Adult Center.

Active Aging Day will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre.

The Annual Craft Fair & Bake Sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17.

A staff member from state Rep. Karen Boback’s office will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21 to assist any constituents with state -elated questions.

National Falls Prevention Day is Thursday, Sept. 22. Lunch & Learn will be with Mike Taluto from PennDOT as he discusses driving safety. Afterwards, Joan Krispin, LPN, admissions director from The Meadows will check blood pressures from 12:30 to 1 p.m. and will join in bingo afterwards.

Lunch & Learn will be at at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 with Cheryl McGovern, R.N. from the state Department of Health and she will discuss food borne illness.”

COSMOPOLITAN SENIORS

Club meeting is Sept. 13

EXETER — The Cosmopolitan Senior Citizens Club’s next meeting is 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. in St. Anthony’s center. Host and hostesses are Richard Anselmi, Theresa Blasavage, Ed Hall and Toni Hall.

State Rep. Aaron Kaufer will be guest speaker. He will be available to answer questions on current legislation and subjects of interest to senior citizens.

A trip is scheduled to Hollywood Casino on Thursday, Oct. 6, also Sands Casino in Bethlehem on Thursdays, Nov. 10 and Dec. 1. Pickups are in Exeter and Pittston and it is not required to be a club member to join our trips. Call Johanna at 570-655-2720 for reservations and information.

ST. JOSEPH’S SENIOR SOCIAL CLUB

Meeting will be Sept. 15

PITTSTON — St. Joseph’s Senior Social Club will have its meeting a t 1 p.m. Thursday Sept. 15 at St. Joseph Marello Parish Center on William Street.

Matters for the coming year will be discussed.

Refreshments will be served and bingo and games will be played after the meeting.

The servers for this month are Madeline Amico, Maureen Leone, Nancy Montagna and Mary Morgan.

Members are asked to bring staples for St. John’s Food Pantry.
